IPSA-LASA Collaboration: Ðǿմ«Ã½Present at the 2023 LASA Congress

Ðǿմ«Ã½was present at the Latin American Studies Association’s (LASA) 2023 Congress, held virtually and in-person in Vancouver, Canada, from 24-27 May 2023. 

Ðǿմ«Ã½Panel

Executive Committee member Azul A. Aguiar Aguilar represented Ðǿմ«Ã½and chaired the panel on Democracy, Judicial Institutions, and Organized Crime in Latin America on 26 May. Panelists discussed how judicial institutions have responded to the presence and expansion of organized crime in Latin America, what models and strategies have been implemented, and why some countries have failed in the fight against organized crime while others have succeeded.

In their presentations, Azul A. Aguiar Aguilar and Salvatore Sberna discussed the judicial response to organized crime in Mexico and Italy. They presented a typology of judicial models used to address organized crime, highlighting variations across countries and time periods. Through a comparative analysis, they examined the organizational transformations undertaken by the judicial systems in Italy and Mexico to effectively prosecute organized crime.

IPSA’s Virtual Booth and Q&A Sessions

Ðǿմ«Ã½had a virtual exhibition booth at the event to inform LASA delegates about Ðǿմ«Ã½activities, recent publications, and the 2023 Ðǿմ«Ã½World Congress of Political Science in Buenos Aires. Haluk Dag, Communication and Promotion Coordinator, held two virtual Q&A sessions.
